How To Prevent Stretch Marks In 5 Steps!

How To Prevent Stretch Marks In Five Steps! http://www.hautehaas.com/2018/05/how-to-prevent-stretch-marks-in-5-steps.html
I've stumbled upon gold! The subject of stretch mark prevention has been reiterated time and time again. HOWEVER, I have yet to find a comprehensive article on how to actually prevent stretch marks.  As someone who is genetically predisposed to acquire these "tiger marks," I endlessly scoured the interweb to no avail. My only hope was to throw the proverbial kitchen sink at my stomach and pray that I would come out unscathed. IT WORKED!

I am 7 months in to my second pregnancy and I have zero, zilch, nada, none, no stretch marks on my stomach.  I know you might be saying to yourself, "Oh, she is just one of the lucky ones" but this is not the case. My results are a direct result of the actions I took in preventing stretch marks. I know this to be true because I failed to apply the same care to other bits of my body, and these bits suffered a different fate :/.

First things first. In order to combat stretch marks, I needed to find out what caused them. Aside from genetics, the major contributing factors were the following: dehydrated skin (directly related to elasticity of skin), accumulation of dead skin cells, scratching/tearing of the skin, rapid increase or decrease in weight gain (directly related to degree of stress placed on the skin), and cortisone levels in the body.

Armed with knowledge, I was ready to take my best shot at preventing stretch marks.  The following is a breakdown of what I did every single day:

How_to_prevent_stretchmarks_during_pregnancy

STEP 1:

EXFOLIATE. While in the shower I used an exfoliating towel ($8.00). This removed the dead skin cells from my abdomen and allowed the new skin cells to regenerate without having to overcome the old.

STEP 2:

MOISTURIZE. I then used an in shower moisturizer. I alternated between the Nivea In Shower Lotion ($7.99) and the Lush King of Skin Butter Bar ($14). The Lush website states the King of Skin is a 'solid body lotion to make your dry skin softer, smoother, and more flexible.'  The bar is made of bananas, avocados, oat milk, and lavender. The bar provided more moisture but I often alternated with the Nivea moisturizer and still managed to receive the results I wanted.

STEP 3:

LOCK IN MOISTURE.  Once I was out of the shower I would lock in the moisture by applying a body oil. I used a couple but my favorites were Palmers Skin Therapy ($9.99) and natural liquid coconut oil

STEP 4:

MOISTURIZE SOME MORE. Before the body oil had dried, I followed up with a heavy body butter laden with vitamin E, and later on in the pregnancy I used a heavy duty eczema cream to help with the itchiness of my stretching skin. I then let all that goodness soak in before putting on clothes or more often than not wore a moisture wicking top that aided in sealing in all that moisture.

STEP 24/7:

In order to keep my skin hydrated I drank water ALL. THE. TIME. I also watched what I ate in order to gain pregnancy weight at a steady interval rather than in rapid spurts. Don't get me wrong, I still indulged in ice cream and all sorts of yummy things like churros... mmmmm... churros... I just ate in moderation. Just remember, even though you are eating for two, your little bean is very small and only needs an additional 300 to 500 calories a day.

VIOLA! This is how I prevented stretch marks. Towards the end of my pregnancy (the last month or so) I applied steps 3 and 4 twice a day, not just after my shower. This helped soothe my itchy skin and it prevented me from scratching and tearing up my skin.

I am so excited to share this information with all of you. I hope this helps you on your pregnancy journey. Lord knows there is so much more to worry about, hopefully stretch marks is no longer on your list.
                                                                                        xoxo,
                                                                                                                                                                                                            Maria Elena

How I Lost The Baby Weight: Ketogenic Diet

Disclaimer: I am not a physician, as always, you should consult your doctor before beginning any new dietary or exercise regimen.

In today's video post I shared my max weight during pregnancy (180 lbs), my weight after being on the Ketogenic diet (132 lbs), and my weight now that I've fallen off the Keto wagon (145 lbs). I thought it would be fun to share and document my experience back down to my previous weight and through to my goal weight of 130 lbs.

What Is The Ketogenic Diet?

In short, it is a low carb and high fat lifestyle. This lifestyle isn't exclusive to meat eaters. There are vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian plans. The goal is to remain under 20-50 grams of carbs per day, depending on your particular macro nutrient needs. Here is a free macro calculator so you can determine what your body needs in order to reach optimal ketosis.

It is recommended that you carb cycle (add a higher amount of slower digesting carbs into your diet) every three months, and then return to your ketogenic lifestyle. However, there are many people who live continuously on keto. As with everything else, it's always best to listen to your body.

Why Do I Love The Ketogenic Lifestyle?

I LOVE keto because you can eat yummy food. No joke. This is the main reason why I love it. Here are some of the other reasons why I love the keto lifestyle:

  • I could eat yummy food without feeling deprived;
  • I had tons of energy;
  • felt amazing; and
  • my body felt tight.

There are tons of yummy keto recipies on pinterest. I have my own board where I've added recipes I would love to create, many which i've tried and loved. Even though you can't buy bread or cakes, you can make your own with almond or coconut flower and still remain within your macro nutrient requirements. I would bake on Sunday for the upcoming week and easily had my yummy baked goods throughout the week.

Why Did I Fall Off The Keto Wagon?

I reached the weight of 132 lbs and got lazy. I stopped baking for the week, which was a major help with staying on track and I stopped logging my meals. Jump forward to two months later and I am at 145 lbs. feeling sluggish and a bloated mess.

I am ready to jump back on the keto wagon and wanted to take you along my journey this time around. Where you can find me:

Tips And Tricks When Flying With A Toddler

Tips For Flying with Baby Alone

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, I thought there would be no better time to share my tips for flying with a toddler. It can be extremely daunting, but rest assured, with the proper preparation the travel portion of the trip can be somewhat enjoyable. Trust me, if I could do it flying solo, you can too.

Pre-Flight

The preparation starts at home. You will need at to plan out two packing items: 1) baby’s check-in bag and your carry-on/personal item that will hold all your tricks and treats for keeping the baby and yourself sane throughout the flight.

1. Lay Out Suitcase A Week Before Flight:

I like to create a packing list a week in advance and break out the suitcase to start chucking things in until the date of the flight. This helps you avoid rushing around last minute and inevitably forgetting something. Trust me, traveling with a toddler means you do not want to forget that special lovie… all hell will break loose.  Click on the image below if you would like to download my packing list.

2. Start Packing Carry-On 2 or 3 Days Before Flight:

In my humble opinion, this bag will either make you or break you. I started getting my carry on ready two days prior to our flight. I chose the Longchamp LePliage Neo in Black because it was extremely easy to clean, waterproof, and had a zipper closure which made sure the contents didn’t go spilling everywhere. I absolutely LOVE this bag. It is so light so the only weight came from my the contents, every single one vital and necessary to a smooth flight.  Click on the image below to download my carry-on checklist.

 Perfect Travel Bag

A big part of being able to quickly access everything packed in my carry-on was this bag organizer.

3. Check Off Packing List The Night Before Flight

Trust me, it might seem tedious but you will be thanking me the day of when you've made sure to not forget a single thing. Don't forget to back baby's identifying documents as most airlines require proof of age for travel.

4. Get To Airport SUPER SUPER SUPER Early

I cannot stress this enough. Getting to the airport with more than enough time allows for a smooth transition at the ticket agent desk, security check and also allows for any possible mishaps. i.e. changing diapers, clothes, buying water, etc.

Boarding

1. Wear Baby In A Carrier

Wearing your baby in carrier frees up your arms so that you can handle paperwork, buy food or fold up your stroller at the gate without having to worry about your little one making a run for the cockpit. This is a major life savor when flying solo with baby.

2. Pack Baby Gear In Carseat Bag If Possible

Most airlines allow you to check baby's car seat and stroller free of charge. In order to protect your car seat I highly recommend use of a bag like this one:

A bonus is that some airlines let you get away with packing additional baby gear in the car seat bag, allowing room in your luggage for things like clothes.

3. Check Your Stroller At The Gate

Another major tip is to check your stroller at the gate. First of all, this allows you to pile on your carry on bag while wearing your child or vice versa. Furthermore, having something with wheels which can carry either your child or a heavier carry-on comes in reeeeeally handy when your gate is very farm from the security check. I used our lightweight stroller which was easy to fold and it performed amazingly well.

In Flight

1. Pack Plenty of Snacks

Think snacks, on snacks, on snacks. Be sure to take one tried and true and one new. I loved placing them in this spill proof container that doubled as a source of entertainment for David:

2. Multi-Purpose Toys

Since you are traveling with limited space, it is best to take multi-purpose toys. I brought a book from Target's dollar spot that was a coloring book, story book, and sticker book all in one. I also brought a multi-sensory toy which tripled as a teether and had a ring which I could clasp on to the exterior of my bag. Major win.

3. Portable Milk

I love Horizon milk and was so amazed when I discovered they sell milk in small containers which do not require refrigeration. Major find for traveling! As long as the containers are sealed, security will simply swipe the exterior for clearance and you are good to go.

I hope this post has brought you some comfort with respect to your upcoming travels. Know that if I can do it, so can you!

Kerastase Dupe?! March Beauty Baby and Lifestyle Favorites

Kerastase Dupe?! March Beauty Baby and Lifestyle Favorites

I have some awesome favorites to share with you this month! As always, I have divided my favorites into three categories: beauty, baby, and lifestyle.

BEAUTY FAVORITES

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme

 Too Faced Lip Injections Extreme

Meet my new holy grail lip plumping gloss. Yes, it is that good. I'm on my second tube of this stuff and will continue to buy it until they discontinue it (which I hope is never!).

I have run the gambit with plumping products and glosses. Prior to using this gloss, I felt as if my upper lip was disappearing when I smiled. After about two weeks of use, I honestly think it helped my upper lip become fuller. The product does state that it has long term effects and I feel it has delivered. I have worn this gloss almost every day with reapplication multiple times a day (like I would with any gloss), and I LOVE the way it has made my lips look.

However, if you do not like products that sting, do not buy this gloss. It definitely stings when you first apply it. Also, DO NOT kiss your baby if you are wearing this!!! The plumping agents are too intense for their baby skin and will irritate it...but it will leave you with juicy lips.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

 Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

This overnight mask was included in one of my Christmas gifts from the hubby. I don't think I would have ever purchased it as I have combo to oily skin, leaning more towards oily. However, I use Retin-A and don't drink as much water as I should so though my skin is oily, it can still look dehydrated. I was looking for a mask to try and help with dullness and pulled this out of my stash. Boy, oh boy, this stuff is awesome! It leaves my skin so soft, hydrated, and supple. Bonus, a little goes a long way so I am still working on the original tube my husband gave me.

Suave Keratin Infusion Smoothing Conditioner, leave-in Heat Protectant, and Oribe Run Through Detangle Spray

Suave Keratin Infusion Smoothing Conditioner Suave Leave-in Heat Protectant Oribe Run Through DeTangle Spray Review

This trio is rocking my world! My hair has been extra frizzy because of crazy weather and running the humidifier for my son. I was searching for a remedy when my friend Nicole suggested I try the Kerastase line of hair products for frizz. I don't live near any salons that sell Kerastase, and Ulta does not carry this line. Being a new momma, I honestly do not venture out much more than the grocery store, gym, and Ulta. Exciting stuff right? #momlife

When I saw this at the grocery store I decided to give it a try. The products claim to work just as well as Kerastase and they sure do leave my hair feeling amazing. I don't battle frizz and my hair feels silky smooth. Total favorite for this month!

Though my hair was smooth and frizz free, it still was a knotted mess. After having David, my hair would easily not. So annoying. Nicole included the Oribe spray in a goodies box she sent me a couple of months back and I was excited to see if it solved the knotting issue. Between this trio of products, my hair is now back under control and Spring ready. Bring on the weather!

MOMMY AND BABY FAVORITES

Baby Magic No-Rinse Wash and Wet Ones Extra Gentle For Sensitive Skin

Best toddler combo for the win! If you have a toddler who is feeding himself, then you will inevitably have a messy child. Because it just isn't practical to bathe David 3 times a day, this combo helps me keep David looking and smelling clean in between meals.  I didn't even know they sold No-Rinse soap for babies! It's like their version of dry shampoo (though I've yet to try this stuff on his hair). David suffers from eczema and neither of these products have made him break out or irritated his skin in the slightest.

Versa Spray Handheld Sprayer for Bathtub

Bathtime game-changer under $10? Yes, please! My back was killing me from having switched David's bathtime to our big tub. The bathtub did not have a hand held sprayer and the spout hit against the actual tub wall. I looked on Amazon and found this handheld sprayer for under $10 and decided to give it a go. Game-Changer. I LOVE this thing. I even love it for when I take a bath and use hair masks. I can easily rinse my hair with clean water, sans acrobatics!

LIFESTYLE FAVORITES

Home Theatre Projector

As new parents, Corey and I don't frequent movie theaters. We wanted to recreate the experience at home so we purchased a projector for our finished basement. Oh man, this thing is a game changer. It is less expensive than buying a conventional television of the same size and truly does create a movie theater environment in your own home.

In addition to using the projector for family movie nights, we also use it for workouts and baby David's play time. I use it almost every morning when doing my yoga routine and every afternoon when David is playing in the basement. Absolute favorite!

Bluedio Bluetooth Portable Speaker

I love to listen to music while cooking. Music is a fun way for me to relax at the end of the day and this little speaker makes it happen. It has amazing sound for such a small speaker! I found this when researching for Bose dupes during Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised and have been using it almost every day since.

MARBLE THEMED BULLET JOURNAL NOTEBOOKS FROM MICHAELS

Marble Themed Bullet Journal Notebooks From Michaels

Marble Themed Bullet Journal Notebooks From Michaels

I am obsessed with these new notebooks from Michaels! I am also very happy that they are only $6.99 each! #winning I have been using them as my journal for my entrepreneurial journey with the blog and have been loving them. They come with a bullet journal style index in the beginning and a place for you to write in the page numbers. They don't come pre-numbered, but at $6.99, I am not complaining.

That concludes my favorites for the month of March. Let me know what you have been loving? I'm always on the hunt for exciting new products.
